Reach For The Dead
Sello: Warp Records
After seven years of silence following 2005's The Campfire Headphase, Boards of Canada finally climbed out of their mossy burrow sounding like they hadn't aged a day. True, Tomorrow's Harvest is perhaps more somber than earlier albums -- its shadows darker, its atmospheres more diffuse. Behind the reassuring chord progressions, an undercurrent of dread ripples across the ragged edges of their synthesizer tones. But while their sound has clearly evolved, they remain steadfastly sui generis; spine-tinglingly timeless, it's a Van Winkle-worthy return to form.
