Sello: Warner Records
In many respects, Linkin Park chose to stick with what works on their second proper album (which, commercially speaking, wasn’t a bad idea). The familiar buzzing guitars, oddly melodic choruses, howling anger and deft explorations of both hip-hop and electronica are all here. But while Meteora is, in terms of style, much like its predecessor Hybrid Theory, the record also tends to hit harder in regards to mood, emotion and rhythm. Maybe the most salient example is “Somewhere I Belong” an eardrum-crushing throwdown that sounds heavily informed by The Deftones’ avant-masterpiece White Pony.
