Live Phish: 8/7/10 Greek Theatre, Berkeley, CA
Sello: Jemp Records
For the Phish Nation, gigs at Berkeley's William Randolph Hearst Greek Theatre are a big deal. The gala vibe these shows take on has a lot to do with Bay Area hippie history. The granddaddy of all jam bands, The Grateful Dead, unleashed some epic performances on the same stage. Phish, as you'd expect, rise to the occasion in fine fashion. Wasting no time, they achieve liftoff by the second half of the opening "AC/DC Bag," a chestnut from The White Tape. Another highlight, originally from the same album, is "Slave to the Traffic Light," which boasts wildly intricate pretzel logic.
